Smolik is a lawyer and media specialist at the Federal Office of Communications in Bienne, Switzerland. As a film-maker he directed documentaries on painters (Guy Baer, Steven-Paul Robert), as well as one on the poet Gustave Roud (Port-des-Prés). He is the author of several essays relating to authors from the French-speaking part of Switzerland or well-known figures who have formed strong links with the canton of Vaud (Charlie Chaplin, Graham Greene). In 2008, his first novel, Le Bar à parfums was published by éditions de L'Aire, and in 2012, in the collection of "Les dossiers H" by éditions de l'Age d'Homme Georges Haldas, l'Invisible au quotidien appeared.
